Four linked mountains provide the main ski area (111km of runs) and the region of Dachstein Tauren also includes a number of smaller ski areas including the magnificent Dachstein Glacier. Schladming plays host to a number of major snowsports events every Winter and is a candidate for the World Ski Championships in 2013. The area offers diverse skiing and snowboarding, from winding, tree-lined runs to the challenging downhill used for the Men's World Cup Night Slalom! The medieval town of Schladming is busy and bustling with good apres-ski bars, great shopping and pretty pavement cafes. Skiing: Beginners: The excellent ski school in Schladming meets at Rohrmoos and there is a brilliant nursery area at Planai with gentle nursery slopes and a handful of gentle blues. The lower slopes at Rohrmoos are excellent for beginners looking to improve their technique. Intermediates: Schladming has predominantly north-facing slopes, over 80 skilifts and 170kms of piste making this the perfect resort for intermediate skiers. Advanced: For advanced skiers there are two World Cup Downhill runs to try - each of which is 5kms long! The Planai has a few bumpy blacks. The Hauser Kaibling hosts rounds of the Women's World Cup Downhills. Snowboarding: Schladming is first-rate for snowboarders of all levels.
