Resort Description
Zell am See is a pretty lakeside town with varied ski runs and glacier skiing. As well as its own excellent skiing, mainly on the Schmittenhohe, the resort lies at the heart of Austria's Europa Sport region, which includes neighbouring Kaprun from where direct access to the 10500ft glacier is attained. Zell am See is ideal for those seeking a characteristic little town with varied skiing on all levels and the traffic free medieval town centre presents excellent shopping and plentiful evening entertainment with colourful pavement cafes, wine bars and restaurants.
Apres Ski
Zell am See has a sports centre with indoor pool, ice-skating, bowling and excursions. There is a huge variety of shops, bars and restaurants, nightclubs and discos, and even a small casino.
Skiing
Beginners
Learn on the convenient nursery slopes at the ski school meeting place, at the Sonnenalm lifts, reached by regular bus from the centre of Zell am See. The easiest blue runs for beginners are further up the mountain and acessed by lift from the lower slopes.
Intermediates
The Europa Sport region is an exciting and varied area, particularly for intermediate skiers. Access to the main Zeller gondola lift is very close to the centre of Zell am See, giving easy access to the whole circuit. An abundance of red runs make this exciting terrain for the more adventurous skier.
Advanced
There is a range of challenging skiing with tree lined runs and forest skiing too. Mogulled pistes and off-piste runs make Zell am See inviting for the more advanced skier.
Snowboarding
Excellent surfing possibilities exist on the Schmittenhohe plus access to a permanent half-pipe containing jumps, ramps and bumps.
