Resort Description Situated in a 'snow corner' of the Alps, the fashionable resort of Kitzbuhel presents a modern state of the art ski circuit. Famous above all for the Men's Downhill Race on the Hahnenkamm, this lively and sophisticated resort has something for everyone, from young to old, from beginner to expert and also for non-skiers. Dating back to the 14th century, its painted medieval houses, stylish shops, concealed passageways and pavement cafes are fascinating to explore. Excellent nightlife. Apres Ski 'Aquarena' swimming/fitness centre; sleigh rides; fondues; indoor tennis; squash; horse riding; wildlife park (Aurrach); excursions (eg Salzburg, Innsbruck); prepared trails for walking; skating; curling; cross country skiing; snow shoe walking; snowboarding; paragliding; ballooning. Kitzbuhel has an excellent selection of elegant shops; banks; numerous restaurants; pubs; bars and cafes at all price ranges; museum; cinema; casino; nightclubs. Skiing Beginners There are several nursery slopes and the main area is conveniently located at the base of the Hahnenkamm. With the help of our 'Red Devils' ski school, learning is made easy and great fun. Intermediates The choice of blue and red runs is extensive. Lots of wide open slopes on the Kitzbuhler Horn and the scenic area of Pass Thurn provides varied terrain. You will also enjoy 'following the elephants' on the 35km 'ski safari'! The Hahnenkamm presents an extensive , interlinked network of 54 lifts which encompasses the areas of Kirchberg, Aschau, Aurach, Jochberg and Pass Thurn. Advanced The ultimate challenge is the 'Streif' with its vertical 'Mausefalle' (mousetrap) which even the ski racers fear. Off-piste skiing is also good and varied. Snowboarding Popular with varied terrain containing natural valleys forming half-pipes and jumps on the 'Horn'. |
